Zhanjiang Airport handled 25,487 flights, 2.09 million passengers and 14,860.8 tons of cargo in 2017 – a year-on-year increase of 35.2, 28.9 and 24.5 percent respectively.
According to a spokesperson, it marks a new level of the airport as an important transport artery in Beibu Gulf and as a portal for China in its opening-up to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Over the past year, Zhanjiang Airport opened 11 domestic routes to Nanjing, Nanchang, Xi'an, Ningbo, Fuzhou, Guilin, Wuhan, Dalian, Shenzhen, Tianjin and Shijiazhuang.
Flights heading for Hong Kong, Wuhan, Zhuhai and Guiyang have also expanded, with an international route initiated to link Zhanjiang with Phnom Penh, capital of Cambodia.
In 2018, Zhanjiang Airport will add yet more flights to Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen, while launching new routes to Qingdao, Hefei, Taiyuan, Changchun and Harbin. It is estimated that passenger throughput at the airport will hit 4 million by 2020.
