Container throughput at Zhanjiang Port exceeded 900,000 in 2017, surpassing its annual target and marking a year-on-year increase of 25 percent, Zhanjiang Port Group announced on Dec 31.
In the past year, the port has expanded its business and improved its services. By opening two land ports in Guizhou province, the company has further extended its influence in Southwest China.
A total of seven extra shipping routes were opened in 2017 to complete the transportation network of Zhanjiang Port, enabling containers to be delivered to different parts of China, Southeast Asia, South Asia and Africa.
Four rail-sea combined transport routes were also added last year, bringing the port's total to eight, creating a seamless connection between low-cost sea and railway transportation.
The year also saw 23 records broken by the port in productivity and efficiency. On Dec 22, its cargo throughput hit a record high of 100 million tons, up 13.8 percent year-on-year.
The port has also been active in exploring new business modes, including bonded logistics services, cold chain logistics services and cross-border e-commerce to catch up with the latest trend.
