Southwest China's Guizhou province received nearly eight million tourists and some five billion yuan ($767 million) in tourism revenue during the New Year holiday from Dec 30, 2017 to Jan 1, 2018.

Statistics show that the number of tourists and tourism revenue increased 30.6 percent and 32.3 percent, respectively, compared with the same period last year.

Renowned attractions such as Huangguoshu Waterfall, Xijiang Miao village, and Qingyan Ancient Town remained the major draws for visitors from around the world. Each site received more than 4,000 travelers during each day of the holiday. Hot springs located throughout Guizhou's various counties and cities received about 3,500 visitors each per day.

Winter tourist attractions are especially popular among visitors from Sichuan, Yunnan and Hainan provinces. The mountainous province of Guizhou is suitable for building skiing resorts due to its location on a high-elevation plateau.

Through the combined efforts of 54 local scenic areas and travel websites such as LY.com and Ctrip.com, traveling in Guizhou has become extremely convenient, largely due to online booking services.
