Shanjuan Cave is located in Yixing, Wuxi, East China’s Jiangsu province. The trees found at its entrance can be traced backed to the age of dinosaurs. The world famous Yuantong Tower and the largest potting workshop in China are also located here.
The cave has been described as splendid underground palace. At about 800 meters in length and covering an area of about 5,000 square meters, it consists of upper, middle, lower and water caves, which are connected with each other. There are many miracles and legends that center on the cave and its many stalactites and stalagmites.

Waterfall to the lower cave
The waterfall runs down along the cliff to the cave, where gurgling streams converge at the bottom.
Boating on the water cave
The water cave is a unique attraction in the scenic area. The river flowing inside the cave is six meters wide, with boats traveling on it the whole year.
Purple clay culture
At Yuantong Tower which sits on the top of the mountain, there are 53 suspended purple clay statues of Avalokitesvara. These statues have played a pioneering role in the integration of Buddhist culture and purple clay art. Visitors can also make purple clay works by themselves.
