A gala performance featuring recitation, calligraphy, singing and dancing that extol the majestic Mount Tai was held on Jan 2 in Tai'an, Shandong province.
Located towards the north of the city of Tai'an, Mount Tai is China's most renowned sacred mountain, with exceptional historic, cultural, aesthetic and scientific value.
Mount Tai was the object of an imperial cult for nearly 2,000 years, and the artistic masterpieces found here are in perfect harmony with the natural landscape. It has always been a source of inspiration for Chinese artists and scholars and symbolizes ancient Chinese civilizations and beliefs.

The mountain includes 12 historically recorded imperial ceremonies in homage to Heaven and Earth, about 1,800 stone tablets and inscriptions, and 22 temples, which all together make Mount Tai the most important monument in China, a world-renowned treasure house of history and culture.
Jointly organized by the Tai'an municipal education bureau and the Mount Tai Scenic Area Management Committee, the event highlighted poems, songs and articles that emblazon the majesty, spirit and culture of Mount Tai.
Teachers and students from the city's primary and secondary schools staged 15 orchestrated shows during the gala. Wei Jian, director of Shandong Normal University's language and literature research institute, renowned artist Xue Zhongrui, and Li Weidong, deputy director of the teaching and research office of Beijing Municipal Education Commission were also invited to recite popular poems and articles themed around Mount Tai.
According to an official from the Mount Tai Scenic Area Management Committee, the event is designed to carry forward the spirit and culture of Mount Tai.
