The Korean pine broad-leaved forest in Jilin was listed as one of the 15 most beautiful forests in China at the first China Green Times Annual Summit and the 2017 China Forest-bar Forum on Dec 20.
Lanjia Great Canyon National Forest Park, located at northern Laoye Mountain in the Changbai Mountains, is the site of the forest. It covers an area of 10,972 hectares with a coverage rate of 98.2 percent, the highest in Northeast China.
It is also one of the first pilot forest recuperation bases in China.
The park has an abundance of old and rare trees and is home to a large group of taxus cuspidata, a national protected species at the class one level. Many of them are 400 to 500 years old and more than 26 meters tall with a diameter of over one meter.
When autumn comes, the park provides visitors with colorful landscapes. Trees with leaves in different colors blend together in an ocean of color.
The first selection of the most beautiful forests was made in April of 2017. The evaluation depends on many factors such as area, distribution, ecological diversity, regional representativeness, geography and air quality.
The Korean pine broad-leaved forest in the park is the only listed forest in Jilin. Another 14 of the most beautiful forests in China are located in Gansu, Guizhou, Guangdong, Hainan, Heilongjiang, Liaoning, Inner Mongolia, Qinghai , Shaanxi, Sichuan and Zhejiang.
