On Dec 27, the Pediatric Hematology and Oncology department of the first Bethune Hospital of Jilin University was full of happiness. Eighty-eight children with leukemia showed their New Year gifts and shared joy with their parents.
The gifts were collected by the central blood station of Changchun through the activity "realizing the New Year's wishes of children with leukemia", which it organized.
The activity started on Dec 8 and during the next half month, 88 children with leukemia wrote down what they hoped for in the New Year on the wish list.
Many volunteers took part in the activity to help the wishes come true.

"Since the diagnosis, he has suffered a lot and spent most of his time in the hospital. Because of the risk of infection, he can't play with other children. His wish in the New Year is to have an assembled toy. Now the wish has been realized," says the mother of Xiaoshitou, a four-and-half-year-old patient, "It is the happiest day for him."

Li Bingbing, director of the central blood station of Changchun, says that many kind people have helped these children and brought the gifts to the station by themselves.
Li hopes that more and more people will donate their blood to the station to save the children and other patients who will need transfusions for a long time. "This is the gift of life", she adds.
