The Hohhot-Juungar-Ordos Railway Z6101 was officially put into service on Dec 31, 2017, according to a news release by local media organizations.
The first train departed Hohhot at 11:42, arrived at Juungar Banner station at 12:29, before finally reaching Ordos at 13:37.
The railway line has a total length of 245 kilometers with investment of 18.8 billion yuan ($2.89 billion). The top speed of the railway is designed to reach 160 kilometers per hour.
The city of Ordos is expected to gain more railway connections in the future, as the national railway authority prepares to include the new railway into the national network.
