The 2017 Jiangmen Designers' Night, a ceremony for awarding industrial design competition winners, was held in Jiangmen, Guangdong province, on Dec 28.
The contest was focused on the integration of industrial design and manufacturing in Jiangmen. A total of 168 companies and colleges participated, entering more than 2,700 designs. Participants sought to share their technologies and life philosophies.
This year Jiangmen has attached greater emphasis to the construction of high-tech industries, incubation systems, and R&D institutions, launching 741 high-tech enterprises, 348,000 square meters of incubator area, and 43,000-square meters of hacker space.
The funding from provincial authorities for high-tech enterprises has reached 128 million yuan ($19.6 million) this year, and R&D institutions at provincial and municipal levels in the city received an additional 7 million yuan.
Over 22 million yuan has been invested in introducing research teams to Jiangmen this year. Income tax exemption and reduction policies have been implemented for high-tech companies and talents.
"The patents granted to small and micro businesses in Jiangmen have increased to 2,585 in 2017 compared with 700 in 2014. Jiangmen has enhanced its awareness of innovation, and advanced the ability of intellectual property protection and application," said Xie Hong, deputy director of the Guangdong Intellectual Property Office, at a launching ceremony of the Jiangmen Small and Micro Business Innovative Week.
