Xiamen plans to construct three yacht docks in Xiang'an, Haicang and Jimei districts to prepare for a more prosperous yacht consumption market, Xiamen Daily reported on Dec 27.
The yacht industry in Xiamen has seen rapid development in recent years and its infrastructure and supporting service have also been constantly improved.
Official statistics show that the number of local residents and visitors sailing yachts in Xiamen in the years from 2014 to 2016 was 50,000, 200,000 and 1,000,000 respectively, a 20-fold increase in two years.
As a fast-growing coastal city, Xiamen has certain unique advantages for developing the yacht industry, but yacht berths in the city are fewer than 1,000, which is not sufficient to satisfy future demand.
Wu Guoliang, deputy director of the Xiamen Oceans and Fisheries Bureau, believes that Xiamen should at least have ten professional yacht docks in the future to guarantee a sound yacht market.
“Sailing a yacht to enjoy the warm sunshine, blue sky and sea waves is no longer a life exclusive to the wealthy few,” Wu said that. “Ordinary residents in Xiamen can also live such a life and are even capable of owning a yacht.”
Like cars, yachts also have different price levels set to the requirements of different consumers and renting a yacht is also an option for ordinary families.
Besides, several families can own one yacht, sharing its purchase price and maintenance costs. This system works well as yachts are not used every day.
Industry insiders believe that to live a yachting life for Xiamen residents is not as so unreal as they might think.
