The launch ceremony of the national electronic health card was held on Dec 20 in cities in east China's Jiangsu province, including Wuxi, Nanjing, Zhangjiagang and Lianyungang.
The national electronic health card is a kind of virtual card in the form of a QR Code, a combination of Internet, medical care and finance, allowing citizens to visit a hospital without any identity card.
Citizens can apply for the private QR Code in App or WeChat and use it to register, receive treatment, pay and get medicine in any hospital nationwide. The national electronic health card can also automatically collect and save the patient's medical and image data to form a personal electronic health file.

The national electronic health card has been promoted by the National Health and Family Planning Commission since 2016 to adapt to the development of smart IC cards and the terminal industry, aiming to make medical services more convenient to patients.
Wuxi Third People's Hospital was approved as a demonstration hospital to launch the national electronic health card project by the National Health and Family Planning Commission in Sept, 2017.
With the help of IoT technology, Wuxi Third People's Hospital is providing various intelligent medical services, including a smart nursing project that accurately determines patients' identities and computerizes the nursing process. The improvements raise job efficiency and reduce nurses' work intensity.
