The season's beauty of the smoke bush and maple trees in Tongbai county near the city of Nanyang, Henan province attracted a lot of visitors recently, who came to enjoy the picturesque scenery of early winter, in the Red Leaf Scenic Area which covers 30 square kilometers on Gaolao Mountain and the Qimu Ridge.
The red, crimson, pink, mauve and salmon colors of the leaves among the green pines and cypresses have created a lovely winter site and many visitors hiked to the mountain top to see what Chairman Mao Zedong called "a myriad hills all tinged with red, tier upon tier of crimson woods", in his poem Qinyuan Chun-Changsha.
