Obtaining a diploma
International students who have completed the required courses of study within the time limit specified by the university and met the requirements for graduation in terms of moral, intellectual and physical quality can be allowed to graduate and be conferred on diplomas by the university.
International students who have completed the required courses of study within the time limit specified by the university, but failed to meet the requirements for graduation can be allowed to complete a course and be conferred on certificates of completion. It is up to the university to decide whether one can take a makeup exam, retake a course after failing to pass examination or make up for a graduation project, thesis, and defense, or be conferred on a diploma. The diploma granted after meeting the requirements shall have the graduation date in line with the date of issuance.
The students that have studied for more than one year and dropped out of college shall be granted a certificate of studying at college.
Obtaining a degree
The international students studying in China that have completed the required course of study and achieved the appropriate scores can apply to a degree granting unit for a degree. Those that meet the required academic standards are granted an appropriate degree.
Those who have completed the course of study in their specialties and minored in other subjects and met the relevant requirements for the subjects are granted a certificate of the subjects they have minored in by the university.
Degree-granting units can revoke a degree that has already been granted after the review of the degree evaluation committee if there are circumstances of serious violation of regulations such as fraudulent practices and cheating.
Universities can provide diplomas and degree certificates translated into a foreign language if necessary.
* If diplomas, certificates of completion, certificate of studying at college and degree certificates are lost or damaged, upon the application of the concerned student, the university can issue corresponding certification after verification. The certification has the same effect with the original certificate.
After obtaining a diploma, certificate of completion, certificate of studying at college or dropping out of college, international students shall leave China within the specified time. Universities shall timely notify the exit and entry administration department of the public security organ of the international students that have received the sanction of expulsion from college. The exit and entry administration department of the public security organ shall revoke their foreign residence permit or shorten the period of their stay in China in accordance with law.
Employment of international students after graduation
Foreigners studying in China must satisfy the following conditions when applying for being employed in China: (1) aged 18 or older and with a valid passport, certificate and visa; (2) with the skills and expertise required for the work of intended employment;(3) the post to be filled by the foreigner recruited by the employer shall be the post of special need, a post that cannot be filled by any domestic candidates for the time being but violates no government regulations.
If a foreigner studying in China needs to be employed in China, the employer shall submit a written application to the Ministry of Personnel of the People's Republic of China or its authorized labor and personnel department (bureau) of provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government and grant employment permit upon approval.
(1) After the foreigner's application for being employed in China is approved, the employer shall enter into labor contract with the foreigner. The contract shall be in line with relevant Chinese laws and regulations and a copy of the contract shall be submitted to the original approval department for the record.
(2) The employment permit of foreigners in China is valid for one year, and the employer shall be the same as specified in the employment permit. After the expiration of the employment, the employer shall return the employment permit to the original issuing authority within 10 days after the foreigner quits the job. A foreigner needs to apply to the original issuing authority for the extension of employment permit or change of employer. Employment permit can only be extended once and shall not exceed one year. After the extension or change of employment permit, the foreigner shall apply to the public security organ for registration change.
(3) International students employed in China shall comply with the relevant Chinese laws. If there are circumstances where the employed international students obtain a diploma, certificate of completion, certificate of studying at college or dropping out of college, leave the original employer, violate the regulations of the exit and entry administration, decease or are missing, the employer shall timely report to the exit and entry administration department of the public security organ of the local people's government at the county level or above.
At present, Chinese government is developing relevant supporting policies on the employment of international students.
