Zhuhai Bee+ Makerspace in the National Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone (Tangjiawan) has achieved national status, according to a notice published by the Ministry of Science & Technology.
Altogether 645 High & New-Technology Enterprises (HNTEs) were named in a program that will be provided with incentives from the Torch High Technology Industry Development Center of the Ministry of Science & Technology.
Selected candidates were deemed outstanding in terms of development model, professionalism of service, operations, and achievements over more than six months of operation.
Bee+ Makerspace is the first youth innovation space in China established in the architectural form of shipping containers. Covering 600 sq m with gross floor space of 1,400 sq m, the facility offers more than 100 workstations and creative restaurants and bars.

Since opening in March 2016, the base has been fully occupied, housing 114 teams (companies). Nearly 90 training sessions have been organized with more than 3,000 people taking part.
Teams there receive various services in addition to collaborative office space. For example, they can get involved in cultural activities organized for the youth community where entrepreneurs in diversified industries are brought together with brand-new living and work styles.
Favorable working environment, superior management team, and quality stationing companies have made Bee+ Makerspace the most vibrant cluster area in the Industrial Development Zone and even Zhuhai, attracting numerous entrepreneurship and innovation resources , according to a zone official.
The other Zhuhai projects recorded as national-level makerspaces this year are TusStar Makerspace in Tsinghua University Science Park (TusPark), Peking University Entrepreneur Training Camp in Hengqin, a Zhuhai entrepreneurial workshop established at Beijing Institute of Technology Zhuhai, and the Mi (Maker Incubator) of Guangdong Polytechnic of Science & Technology.
