Guangzhou Port Group signed a cooperation agreement with Dongguan Port Group on Dec 15 to establish a shipping system featuring complementary advantages, share resources as well as build a world-class port hub.
According to the agreement, the two parties will cooperate to build themselves into international gateways and drive the development of neighboring ports and build a port cluster that connects Hong Kong and Macao and serves the Pearl River Delta. The two ports will join hands in terms of shipping infrastructure construction, shipping business and industrial park construction.
Dongguan Port is mainly engaged in grain and coal shipping, logistics, storage, harbor industry and tourism, while Guangzhou port is the major discharge port for Guangdong's energy and raw materials.

According to Cai Jinlong, chairman of Guangzhou Port Group, the cooperation with Dongguan Port Group will help boost the development and exploitation of Shajiao Port Area, Shatian Port Area and Xinsha Port Area in Dongguan Port. He said it will also increase the two ports' handling of goods made by manufacturing companies in the Pearl River Delta, promote regional ports integration and build world-class port hub.
