A two-week exhibition was launched on Nov 9 to celebrate the fourth anniversary of the launch of micro projects aimed at improving Futian residents' quality of life.
More than 30 citizen representatives, leaders of subdistricts in Futian district and Head of the Futian District Government Gao Shengyuan attended the opening ceremony for the exhibition.
The district government had allocated 414 million yuan ($62.59 million) for 5,330 micro projects in 10 subdistricts by the end of October, greatly improving grass-roots government services.
Citizens' representatives in attendance included deputies to the People's Congress and Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference members at the municipal and district levels. They inspected a renovation project at a slope in Shenkang Village in Xiangmihu subdistrict, and a renovation project at Xinyuan Park in Lianhua subdistrict. They also visited the Shuiwei fire control demonstration hall in Futian sub-district and the Road 2 construction project in Huaqiangbei subdistrict.
"What impressed me most was the Shuiwei fire control demonstration hall in Futian subdistrict. I felt up close how an egg reacts in a microwave oven, learned how to survive a fire using virtual reality device and got to know more about safety hazards by watching a documentary," a representative surnamed Wu told Shenzhen Economic Daily.
At Xinyuan Park, residents told the representatives that the Xinyuan Park renovation, one of the micro projects, has turned the park into a paradise for children and elderly residents. Previously, the park had virtually become a rubbish dump, they said.
The projects are aimed at solving citizens' difficulties in their daily lives. After democratic procedures, including collecting proposals from residents, discussions at community Party committees and deliberations among subdistrict officials, the projects were launched in 2014.
The projects have also improved community governance and involved more residents in the running of the communities, district officials said.
