The Guangzhou Marathon is an annual international sports event held in the capital city of Guangdong province in South China.
Hosted by the Chinese Athletic Association (CAA) and the Guangzhou municipal people's government, and organized by the city’s administration of sports, the people's governments of Yuexiu, Haizhu, Liwan and Tianhe districts, Guangzhou Sports Competitions Center and Guangzhou Athletic Association, and approved by the General Administration of Sport of China, Guangdong Province People's Government and Guangzhou government, the marathon is a high-level event recognized by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and the CAA calendar. Guangzhou Marathon was launched in 2012 and certified by CAA as an A-level event. From 2014 to 2016, it was recognized as the CAA Gold Medal Race for three consecutive years. In 2017, the event was upgraded to an IAAF Silver Label Road Race only one year after it was recognized for the first time as an IAAF Bronze Label Road Race.
Guangzhou Marathon combines the charm of competition and the idea of national fitness. It has become a glamorous city name card, helping to promote the spirit of the Guangzhou Asian Games and to develop national fitness, propose a healthy lifestyle, enhance the visibility and influence of Guangzhou, and display the great economic and social achievements of the city, Guangdong and China.
The course of Guangzhou Marathon runs alongside the Pearl River. It brilliantly showcases the most unique Lingnan culture, the most time-honored scenic spots and the most stylish cultural trends. Every year, marathon fans show great enthusiasm for the Guangzhou Marathon and actively take part in it.
