The first robot to ever receive the citizenship of any country made a public appearance at the 2017 International Intellectual Property (IP) Summit held in Guangzhou on Dec 12.
Sophia, a social humanoid robot developed by Hong Kong-based Hanson Robotics, was granted Saudi Arabian citizenship in October this year.
The robot, that has come up with some funny quotes and responses to questions in the past, enjoyed quite a moment in the spotlight at the event due to its shrewd answers to questions raised by journalists and forum attendees.
