Guangzhou Shipyard International Company Limited (GSI, 广船国际有限公司) is a modern shipbuilding company wholly owned by CSSC Offshore & Marine Engineering (Group) Company Limited under the China State Shipbuilding Corporation Group (CSSC).
The past two centuries has witnessed a history of struggles between generations of GSI people from the creation of Guangzhou South Dock by overseas Chinese businessman Tan Liting in 1914 to the establishment of Guangzhou Shipyard International in 1954. There has also been the building of small boats under 100dwt to construction of large vessels over 300,000 deadweight tons (dwt), from being listed in 1993 to expansion and acquisition in Nansha, GSI never stop striving for the growth and prosperity of national shipbuilding industry.
As the largest base for construction of navy support vessels in South China and a national high-tech enterprise with National Technical Center and import and export autonomy, GSI has achieved an annual shipbuilding capacity of 3.5 million dwt, and its portfolio of designs cover diverse types of vessels under 400,000 dwt in compliance with the rules and regulations of major classification societies worldwide. It has acquired the core technology in a wide range of vessels including MR, AFRA, VLCC, VLOC, high tech and value added ships like Semi-submersible Heavy Lift Vessels (SSHLV), Ro-Ro Passenger, Polar Class Deck Carrier, navy support vessel and specialized vessels.
The company has three factories in Liwan, Nansha and Zhongshan for shipbuilding and offshore unit construction. The Liwan factory is located in downtown Guangzhou with two 50,000 dwt shipbuilding slipways, one 30,000 dwt shipping slipway, one 60,000 dwt dry dock and a coastline of 1,600 meters.
The Nansha factory is located on Longxue Island which is part of the Nansha Free Trade Zone neighboring Hong Kong and Macao, covering an area of 2.53 million square meters, equipped with two 300,000 dwt dry docks, four 600 ton gantry cranes, one 900 ton gantry crane, five VLCC berths, and two 50,000 dwt shipbuilding slipways .The Zhongshan factory is located at Onshore Industrial Park of Zhongshan Torch Development Zone with an area of 530,000 square meters and a coastline of 1,200 meters.
