Dazhao Temple

Dazhao Temple, in Yuquan district in Hohhot, is a temple featuring Tibetan Buddhism. It was founded by the chief of the Tumd tribe of the Meng ethnic group in 1579 during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). The temple complex covers 370,000 square meters and contains various cultural relics, among which silver Buddha statues, carvings of dragons and frescoes of the Ming Dynasty are the most famous. Other historic artifacts such as umbrellas, lamps and censesr used by the emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1911) are also on display at the temple. There are also religious instruments, masks and thangka, a special Tibetan Buddhism painting style. The local government made great efforts to develop the temple into a national 4A grade scenic site where visitors can enjoy historic, religious, ethnic and folk cultures. In 2016, it was chosen as a national 4A grade scenic site.
