A rocky cluster of 126 islands, Pingtan is inescapably intertwined with the ocean. It pristine beaches and windswept natural scenery are bathed in the sun’s warm glow year round.

The city has seen a booming tourism development since August 2016, as its government proposal to build Pingtan into an international tourism island was approved by the State Council, China’s cabinet, in particular with rural tourism and marine leisure tourism.

In 2016, Pingtan received a total of 2,900,000 tourists and generated 1.1 billion yuan in revenue, up 25.2 percent and 66.3 percent over the previous year respectively.
