Sunway TaihuLight system won the ACM Gordon Bell Prize for the second time running at this year's 4th World Internet Conference. Its latest breakthrough efficiently processes 18.9 Pflops of data and creates 3D visualizations relating to a devastating earthquake that occurred in Tangshan, China, in 1976.

The Wuxi-based supercomputer also bagged the same prize in 2016 for a high-performance computing program that reads weather patterns, the first-ever awarded to a Chinese team since the awards were established in 1987.

Both technologies were introduced at the 4th World Internet Conference on Dec 3, held this year in the historic water town of Wuzhen in Zhejiang province. The conference is a showcase of the world's leading Internet technology achievements. For the fourth time running, Sunway maintained its leading position as the world's fastest supercomputer with a peak performance of over 100 Pfolps. The computer is located in Wuxi National Supercomputing Center.

After a year of operation, Sunway Taihu-Light has made great strides in computing applications, covering over 20 fields including weather forecasting, advanced manufacturing, life sciences and big data analysis.
