Intl musical instruments exhibition wraps up in Xiamen

The three-day International Musical Instruments Exhibition held in Xiamen, Fujian province came to a close on Dec 3, having attracted more than 30,000 visitors and exhibitors.

The exhibition consists of five parts spreading over 10,000 square meters: pianos/ the violin family, traditional Chinese musical instruments, guitars/percussion instruments, and music education and instrument construction.

The exhibition served as a platform integrating trade, performance and information exchanges and visitors showed great interests in the exhibits.

"As a hot instrument for the last generation, it's been tough days for the accordion over the past decades," Xing Yinfei from German Hohner Accordion Company said. "Sales volume at this exhibition shows that now there's great market potential for accordions."

Leng Bunian, inheritor of Chinese intangible cultural heritage – the art of the Guzheng (a 21-or 25-stringed plucked instrument in some ways similar to the zither), said that the main reason he attended the exhibition was to have more exchanges with his peers.

Leng believes that the meaning of the exhibition is that it allows musical instrument makers to be inspired by the exchanges and observations with their peers and learn more about instruments' development trends.

Local residents warmly welcomed the exhibition and long for more like it.

Initiated in 2016, the International Musical Instruments Exhibition was organized by the cultural development office of the Xiamen municipal government, the Xiamen Daily Newspaper office and a local MICE company to make the coastal city a namesake for music.
