Performers from Ningbo presented the dance opera Mulan with the China National Opera House symphony orchestra on Monday as part of the cultural program for the 4th World Internet Conference (WIC).
More than 1,500 conference delegates from over 80 countries watched the Chinese classic, which tells the story of a romance during war time. Zhejiang's Department of Culture recommended Mulan for this year's WIC as it exemplifies the event's aspiration for world peace.
This year, the conference is held in the historic water town of Wuzhen in Zhejiang province.
Since the opera was first staged at the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) in Beijing on May 17, it has received praise from the artistic community.
Chen Ping, president of the NCPA, said Mulan is one of the most popular performances at the center and is the first time a home-grown opera troupe is accompanied by a symphony orchestra.
The troupe had been rehearsing for a few months and the final performance turned out to be a success.
