Nanhai Wetland is a national 4A-level scenic area in the southern suburbs of Donghe district, Baotou. Connecting with the Yellow River to the south, the area covers 1,664 hectares and is home to more than 200 species of wild animals and plants. Located in the center of the Hohhot-Baotou-Erdos tourism circle, the area combines tourism, ecology and science promotion.

Once an official waterway of ancient China where Wang Zhaojun, famous for her beauty, traveled through Nanhai in order to marry a Hun ruler and ensure friendly relations with the Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 220).
The wetland hosts three annual events: the Yellow River carp festival, the Yellow River wetland festival and the ice and snow festival in Baotou.
