A production line which is expected to produce 200-megawatt PV panels has recently been completed and has started operations, according to a Dec 2 Baotou Daily report.

With investment from Canadian Solar Inc, the production line cost 40 million yuan ($5.8 million) to set up and the products will mainly be exported to the Middle East. The annual output value will reach 600 million yuan.

Founded in 2001 in Canada, Canadian Solar Inc is a multinational firm that manufactures solar PV modules and photovoltaic solar power systems.

Baotou is a manufacturing city in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, with a population of 2.8 million. Earlier in 2009, Canadian Solar was granted rights to develop a 500-megawatt solar power plant in Baotou.

The company also signed an agreement with Baotou in October 2016 to further boost the development of the photovoltaic industry in the city, part of which will include investing in new production lines in the district that will make three-gigawatt silicon chips and 600-megawatt solar power components. The projects will cover 367 mu (24.5 hectares) with overall floor space of 100,000 square meters.
