Last year, the capital city of Inner Mongolia autonomous region produced 2.11 million metric tons of dairy products, ranking first in the nation. Mengniu and Yili saw their annual revenue pass 100 billion yuan ($15.12 billion) in 2016 and account for 33 percent of the industry's total revenue.
According to The Opinions on Upgrading the City's Dairy Industry, the city is aimed at launching a new wave of development in dairy industry.
Hohhot will expand its milk production bases and large-scale farms, and increase milk production to 2.4 million tons by 2022.
Accelerating the upgrade to smart dairy manufacturing is vital to the city's embracing of industry 4.0. The released guideline calls for the establishment of a cloud platform to merge resources in fields of planting, selling and farming. It also encourages leading dairy companies to work together to build an e-commerce platform for the promotion of the brands and specialty dairy products of Inner Mongolia.
Meanwhile, Hohhot aims to promote dairy industry integration by facilitating coordinated development among leading companies, family ranches and specialized cooperatives.
The city will also invest in the construction of a technologically advanced and internationally competitive industry cluster, and a world-class dairy innovation center to deal with disease prevention and control, food security challenges and food processing.
Current plans are expected to help the dairy industry standardize operations and firmly establish Hohhot as one of the world's milk capitals.
