Changsha to further cultural exchanges in East Asia

The closing ceremony of the 2017 Culture City of East Asia event was held in Daegu, South Korea, on Dec 2.

Delegations from Changsha, Tokyo and Daegu, which had been selected as East Asia's three cities of culture, attended the ceremony.

Deputy Mayor of the Hunan provincial capital Chen Zhong said in his speech that the three selected cities have actively promoted cultural exchange and enriched multilateral communication and exchange through sharing cultures.

The three East Asian Cities of Culture will join hands to further deepen each other's friendship in various fields and make concerted efforts to reach common prosperity and achieve win-win results, Chen added.

Representatives from the three countries each staged distinctive performances in Daegu.

Organized by the bureau of culture, radio, film, TV, press and publication of Changsha and the Changsha Dance Theater, Changsha performers also staged distinctive Hunan cultural attractions such as tunes known around the world, like Liuyang River, and dances done in ethnic garments.

The climax of the closing ceremony was a chorus sung by artists from the three countries. 

During the past year, the three East Asian cities have given full play to culture's positive role in boosting economic growth and harmonious social development. Statistics show that the cities involved have organized 20 plus activities for promoting cultural communication.

The East Asian City of Culture campaign has set an excellent example of intergovernmental cooperation and non-governmental exchanges, the Changsha Evening News reported.
