Guangzhou is celebrating a leapfrog development stemming from the Fortune Global Forum 2017, said experts and entrepreneurs at a press conference on Dec 4. The Fortune Forum is due to commence in the Guangdong province capital on Dec 6.
"Guangzhou has been enjoying rapid growth since the start of China's reform and opening up, and ranks among the leading posts in aspects of speed and volume of economic development across the country," said Li Shanming, vice president of Sun Yat-sen University.
The global forum has been held in the four Chinese cities of Shanghai, Hong Kong, Beijing and Chengdu in 1999, 2001, 2005 and 2013 respectively.
"Seeing the results from the four previous host cities, the forum can bring visible wealth effects, and in the aftermath of the forum, Guangzhou will embrace a great opportunity for development," Li Shanming pointed out.

The vice president said that Guangdong province is proposing construction of a Guangzhou-Shenzhen sci-tech innovation corridor. As a city full of vitality within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Guangzhou will experience an accelerated gathering of scientific and innovative elements with the forum serving as a catalyst.
This year's forum has a theme of "Openness & Innovation: Shaping the Global Economy". "Openness and innovation represent the features and advantages of Guangzhou, which complement each other," said Li Chuyuan, president of Guangzhou Pharmaceutical Holdings.
