Guangzhou Automobile Group Co, a major automaker based in Guangdong province, plans to establish two design studios in Los Angeles and Shanghai, according to a senior company manager.
Wang Qiujing, president of the GAC Engineering Institute, said establishment of the studios would help boost the company's technology research strength by focusing on advanced technologies in the automobile industry.
"We will introduce more talents from home and abroad in the automobile technology research area, to help boost our strength in development of Chinese homegrown vehicles," said Wang.
The GAC Engineering Institute, a subsidiary of the GAC Group, now includes about 3,000 technical staff members in automobile research and development, becoming a major force behind the GAC Group's self-innovated vehicles.
"We will focus on original design to help expand the presence of Chinese homegrown vehicles," said Wang.
To attract more young talents, the engineering institute recently organized an automobile design contest, which attracted hundreds of students from 72 domestic higher educational organizations.
