Wuxi has accelerated the construction of characteristic development zones of internet of things (IoT) industry and formed an industry cluster district since 2016. Wuxi’s intelligent sensing system industry cluster is regarded as China’s first batch of innovative industry clusters, and the only one in Jiangsu province. Wuxi (National) Intelligent Traffic Industrial Park was awarded the title by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People’s Republic of China and the Ministry of Public Security of the People’s Republic of China. The Intellectual Sports Park constructed by the municipal and provincial government is currently in operation. And the first Healthcare IoT Products Assessment Center has been earmarked to be built in Wuxi.

Currently, Wuxi IoT has basically formed an industry chain covering information sensing, network communication, processing and application, and basic support. The strength of local enterprises, R&D institutions, public service organizations is continuously enhancing.

By the end of 2016, there were over 2,000 IoT enterprises and more than 150,000 employees in Wuxi, with an operating income reaching 204.5 billion yuan ($30.9 billion). The IoT industry developed steadily in the first half of 2017, reaching 119.7 billion yuan, with a year-on-year growth of 24.5 percent.

Wuxi has signed strategic cooperation agreements successively with AstraZeneca, Cethik, Inspur and Cybernaut, and reached cooperation intention with Alibaba and Huawei. The Cethik project, after choosing a location, formally started operations on August 1, 2017. The AstraZeneca intelligent medical pilot projects of pneumology, metabolic disease and angiocarpy have carried out research in some key hospitals in Wuxi. Alibaba’s IoT innovation center has been put into operation. The designing schemes of Huawei’s IoT Open Lab and City Parlor Construction have finished. Taihu New City and Inspur have signed cooperation agreement to build Wuxi Inspur Big Data Industrial Park together. Cybernaut held cooperation talks with more than 30 companies and outlined the preliminary plan of establishing an IoT investment fund.
