More than 40 swans recently arrived at lakes and wetlands at the Hunhe River National Wetland Park in Qingshuihe county, Hohhot to eat and rest, attracting many local residents and amateur photographers. Later they will fly south to avoid the cold temperatures in North China.
With a total area of 840.31 hectares, Hunhe River National Wetland Park has a wetland coverage rate of 51.19 percent.
"I have photographed several migratory birds like cormorants and swan geese here from February this year, but it's the first time I've seen swans," said Fan Tianlei, a local photographer.
Fan said that over 40 swans flew here in early November. "They mainly rested at grasslands, reservoirs, ponds and even farmlands," added Fan.
"I have never before seen swans near the doorway of my home," said a local resident.
In recent years, officials in the region have worked hard to protect the wetlands in the county through forming a dividing line to conserve the wetlands and rivers that are a crucial bird conservation area. Thanks to these efforts, the region has become a secure location for 129 species of birds, including 16 under national protection.
