Modern Fishery
Zhoushan Fishery, also known as the “East Sea Fish Tank” and “China Fishery City”, is located in the city. There are about 1,163 species of fish in the fishery, including large yellow croaker, small yellow croaker, octopus and cuttlefish.
In 2017, the total annual output of aquatic products was 2.08 million tons, a year-on-year growth of 5.5 percent. Among them, the output of offshore fisheries totaled 632,000 tons, an increase of 17.2 percent. At the end of the year, the city's seawater aquaculture area was 57.52 square kilometers, an increase of 2.3 percent, and aquaculture production reached 279,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 53.9 percent.
Marine Electronic Information
Zhoushan has built a smart marine application demonstration base and a marine electronic information industrial base, as well as a national marine data center in the city. A marine data comprehensive service platform and an application platform are also under construction.
In 2016, the total income of enterprises above designated size was nearly 3 billion yuan ($435.02 million) and the value-added of the industry totaled 1.89 billion yuan. By 2017, there were approximately 500 marine electronic information enterprises with nearly 10,000 employees in the city.
Marine Tourism
Zhoushan boasts abundant tourism resources, profound Buddhist culture and marine culture. The Zhoushan Archipelago has more than 1,000 tourist attractions featuring Buddhist culture, mountainous landscapes and fishery customs. The proportion of good and fair air quality in Zhoushan city has risen to more than 99.4 percent a year and its forest coverage rate remains stable at over 50 percent.
In 2017, the total revenue of the local tourism industry totaled 80.67 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 21.9 percent. The city catered to 55.072 million tourists, among whom 344,000 came from overseas, and realized foreign exchange income of $176.31 million.
