Ulan Muqir troupe through the ages

Members of Ulan Muqir troupe of Sonid Right Banner in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, perform for herdsmen on Nov 23. Meaning “red bud” in the Mongolian language, Ulan Muqir troupe regularly travel throughout the prairie, performing for herdsmen in the region’s remote areas. The first Ulan Muqir troupe was established in 1957 in Sonid Right Banner with only nine members. Nowadays, there are 75 such troupes in Inner Mongolia, bringing more than 7,000 performances to herdsmen each year. [Photo/Xinhua]
