Harbin will make great efforts to develop an innovation-driven agricultural sector and accelerate the upgrading of its agricultural industrial structure, according to a plan released recently.
The 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20) for Harbin's agricultural and economic development in rural areas was recently published by the city's agricultural development committee.
The per capita disposable income for farmers will have increased to 18,000 yuan ($2,698) by the end of 2020, the plan projects.
Meanwhile, the grain sowing area will be kept above 1.87 million hectares, with production capacity of more than 26 billion kilograms.
The total area for planting vegetables will be 167,000 hectares, with a production capacity of more than 6 million tons.
The plan urges the building of six beautiful villages and the acceleration of the integrated development of urban and rural areas in Harbin.
Great efforts will also be made to integrate the development of scientific research institutions for the agricultural sector and to create a platform for agricultural technological innovation, according to the plan.
Furthermore, the plan urged the taking advantage of advanced technologies in agricultural production and management.
