Harbin has established business relationship with 146 countries worldwide. The city’s import and export volume totaled $3.97 billion in 2016, down 17.2 percent year-on-year. The export volume decreased by 28.8 percent to $1.68 billion, while the import volume decreased by 6.1 percent to $2.29 billion.

Out of that, the import and export of agricultural products dropped by 10.3 percent to $1.47 billion; mechanical and electrical products dropped by 17.8 percent to $1.8 billion; high-tech products grew by 20.2 percent to $ 520 million.

There were 69 newly-established foreign-invested companies in 2016, with total investment of $ 510 million, representing an increase of 180 percent year-on-year. Out of that, ten companies reported investments above $10 million, with a total of $2.38 billion, an increase of 670 percent; five companies reported investments above $ 100 million, with a total of $2.2 billion, equivalent to the total foreign investment from 2011 to 2015.
