Luxian holds poverty alleviation conference

Sanmenxia city, Henan province, played host to the National Conference on Financial Poverty Alleviation on Nov 16.

Officials from poverty alleviation departments and financial sectors, such as the People's Bank of China, China Banking Regulatory Commission and China Securities Regulatory Commission, addressed the audience of the conference.

Wang Jiong, deputy Party secretary of Henan province, welcomed the attendees and announced that the province's primary measure to overcome poverty will be through financial support. Wang recommended that Luxian county use methods such as financial service, credit rating, risk prevention and control, and industrial support to make great strides in poverty alleviation.

Hong Tianyun, vice director of the State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development, spoke highly of Henan's efforts in financial poverty alleviation. Hong said that Lushi’s model provided a demonstration on how to bridge the gap between poverty-stricken families and financial institutions, and it encouraged the related authorities to relieve poverty by making good use of micro-credit.

Participants of the conference then paid a visit to Luxian county to witness its efforts in poverty alleviation up close.
