Fairylake Botanical Garden of the Chinese Academy of Sciences is located in the eastern part of Luohu district of Shenzhen. It was built in 1983 and opened to the public in 1988. It covers an area of 546 hectares devoted to botanical research and popularization, ex-situ conservation of endangered species, plant variety protection and utilization, plant production and application and other research work. It is also a good place for cultural leisure.
The garden arose from a construction agreement between the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Shenzhen People’s Government. The two sides built a key lab for study of plants from south subtropical regions in June 2012. It became a base for post doctoral education and was recognized by the local government as a science institute for botanical research.
