Shenzhen Waterlands is located in Bo’an district of Shenzhen. Close to the egress of the Pearl River in the west, Bo’an International Airport in the south and Dongguan city in the North, it has ten major scenic areas covering 240,000 sq km; they include an ecological civilization pavilion, ecological leisure villages and a mangrove forest experiment base.
It ecological village features various kinds of architecture and can provide facilities like meeting rooms, tennis courts, chess rooms, night clubs and gyms for visitors. The ingredients of its served food largely come from its planting areas and lakes. Its waterlands program has been listed as a national agricultural tourism exemplary base.
The village has been designated a base for pollution-free agricultural products such as nile tilapia. It is also a base for popular science, ecological education, and research under the 863 Program, a national high-tech development plan put in place in the 10th Five-Year Plan (2001-05) period.
