New library comes to North China

A children's library financed by Bingxin Award has been established in Hohhot, capital of North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region on Nov 18, the first of its kind in the region.

The library has a fine collection of books wining the Bingxin Award for Children's Literature. It is divided into three zones - an activity room, a reading room and an exhibition room.

As a public project, it offers a free reading place for children and helps them educate themselves through reading.

The Bingxin Award, launched in 1990, was named after Xie Bingxin (pen name), a celebrated contemporary children's writer. It was established to encourage the publication of children's books and support the development of children's literature in China.

"The Bingxin Award has selected many outstanding pieces of work that have made significant contributions to discover new and talented writers over the past 27 years," said Zhao Yiyuan, head of the guidance center for the children's library, speaking at the unveiling ceremony.

Zhao noted that the Bingxin Award will build more than 3,000 children's libraries around the country, allowing more people to enjoy quality literature.
