The Modern Agricultural Core Demonstration Area of Leizhou Peninsula, was listed on the first batch of Guangdong Agricultural Parks on Nov 19.
The citation was made by experts from the Department of Agriculture of Guangdong Province at the eighth Guangdong Modern Agricultural Exhibition, which was held in Guangzhou from Nov 14 to 19.
An agricultural park blends agriculture with sightseeing and entertainment to develop a high-end countryside tourism. Making it onto the first batch of Guangdong Agricultural Parks indicates that it will gain support from the Department of Agriculture and be recommended as a provincial travel route.
Costing 829.27 million yuan ($125 million yuan), the demonstration area was established in partnership with Zhanjiang Municipal Government and Zhanjiang Farms & Land Reclamation Administration and put into use on Jan 8.
Located in Suixi county, it is the first-batch tropical agricultural technology park in the country. Featuring a tropical and subtropical landscape, the 9,678.3-mu (645 hectares) park integrates modern agriculture demonstration, science popularization and rural tourism into one place.
