Trade fair held in Ulaanqab to promote potato industry

The seventh Ulaanqab Potato Trade Fair opened in Ulaanqab, Inner Mongolia autonomous region on Nov 16, with the aim of promoting the development and upgrading of the potato industry, as well as enhancing exchanges and cooperation among provinces and regions.

More than 120 companies and potato farmers in Ulaanqab exhibited and promoted their products at the fair, attracting buyers from places including Beijing, Tianjin, Shandong and Shanxi.

During the three-day fair, 106 cooperation agreements worth 420 million yuan ($63.35 million) were signed.

Activities including forums on the potato industry’s development and the impact of the internet were also held during the fair.

Ulaanqab plants over 4 million mu (267,000 hectares) and produces 4 billion kilograms of potatoes annually, ranking first among prefecture-level cities in the country.

At present, the sales revenues of 26 potato-processing companies in Ulaanqab exceed 5 million yuan, and these companies are significant to industrial restructuring and upgrading, according to Yu Haiyu, vice mayor of the city.
