A committee to establish a Manchu tiger and leopard national park was finally inaugurated on Aug 19 in Changchun, capital of Jilin province, after many years of effort.
A proposal to build an experimental unit for the protection of Manchu tigers and leopards was passed at the end of 2016.
Since then, more comprehensive protection for the rare wild animals, including improved patrols and monitoring, has been conducted.
The park will have a positive influence on the future protection of wildlife in China.
According to the proposal, the park will be located to the south of Laoyeling Mountain which is at the border of Jilin and Heilingjiang province and will cover 1.46 million hectares.
