In 2016, Renyi village, Jinyu county, a former "national impoverished village", overcame poverty and achieved prosperity in eight months thanks to policy supports, financial assistance, and project guidance by the provincial government.
The demonstration of distinctive agricultural products
In Renyi village, there is a field set aside for classes for the villagers and demonstrations of how to grow specific agricultural products.
Cui Shulan, in poverty from illness, had an annual income of only 2,900 yuan($432). Through this project, she learnt how to cultivate black chokeberry, which brought her an increase of 16,000 yuan a year.
Build highways
With over 20 kilometers of road within Jingyu County, Renyi village had only had one bus, which greatly inconvenienced village residents.
However, the village is situated next to the Songhua River, near an attractive Baihushan scenic resort.
Therefore, the provincial Transportation Department and poverty alleviation office invested 38 million to build a 10 km tourist highway.
In the meanwhile, the cement roads in the village will be upgraded to be covered by pitch. This will not only be more convenient for the villagers, but will also take advantage of the village's tourism potential.
Build water pipelines
Due to backward infrastructure and limitations in geographical location, the problem of drinking water is significant in Renyi village.
In early spring this year, the provincial department of water resources invested 900,000 yuan to add 4,000 meters to the water pipelines. With new water facilities, such as pump stations and pumps, the villagers no longer have any difficulties in water supply.
Two other improvements are coming up for Renyi village -- gutterways and tractor roads. Once the extra 4,800 meters of gutterways are built, the village will be much cleaner.
Improve living conditions
Of the 72 impoverished families in Renyi village, 15 lived in extremely poor conditions, and eight even lacked a house to live in. With financial assistance of the provincial department of civil affairs, department of house construction, and the county, villagers' houses were rebuilt or repaired. Cui Shulan was among those to receive new accommodation, for which she is very grateful.
Health clinic expansion
Furthermore, in order to more thoroughly alleviate poverty, the provincial department of civil affairs invested 124,000 yuan to enlarge the clinic in Renyi village.
The village's first secretary, Yu Dejun, coordinated with the health bureau in Baishan city to strive for provision of medicine and medical apparatus and instruments so that villagers could have some simple medical examinations in the village.
The first secretary
First secretary Yu Dejun is admired by every villager.
When asked about his communication methods, Yu said: "I used to live in the rural countryside so I know how simple these villagers are. As long as you understand their demands, there is nothing difficult to solve. Since many recent constructions have kept up with the schedule, Renyi village will overcome poverty by the end of this year."
