Sanmenxia encourages people to use clean coals

Sanmenxia city in Henan province recently put six clean coal distribution centers in to use and released preferential policies to encourage residents' use of clean coals in winter.

To protect the environment, traditional coals are forbidden to be produced, sold or used in the city. Another 83 distribution sites were also set up around the city to deliver clean coals to residents.

"By employing advanced technologies, the clean coals contain less sulphur and can produce more heat," explained Ning Changdou, head of Sanmenxia Qingyuan Clean Coal Co Ltd.

The city needs a great amount of coals in winter. For example, statistics showed that residents in Binhu district are in need of more than 7,000 tons of coals this year and, since Sept 1, as much as 3,000 tons were sold out.

To better promote clean coals, the city released a notice on June 25, which said that each household can buy clean coal at a lower price for the first 1.5 tons for the government will give financial subsidies to the producers.

To enjoy this preferential treatment, residents need to get registration cards at their village committee or sub-district office, with which they are able to buy the coal at distribution centers or sites.
