Zhanjiang ranked top of the scoreboards as the first Beibu Gulf Sports Meet came to a close in the city on Nov 15.
Beihai came home in second place followed by Maoming in third. As an encouragement, Danzhou and Chongzuo were awarded with special participation prizes.
The event was organized by the Beibu Gulf Organization for Economic Cooperation and saw 888 amateur athletes from 10 cities in Beibu Gulf compete across 52 matches.
Using the athletes as an example, the games were intended to promote fitness for all and offer a platform for neighboring cities in Beibu Gulf to strengthen exchanges.
The second edition of the Beibu Gulf Sports Meet is scheduled to be held in Yulin in 2019, with expectations raised for it to become a sports event with extensive influence in China.
