The 2017 Xiamen International Ocean Week concluded on Nov 9 with a total contract value of 700 million yuan ($106 million) and a potential contract value of 1.2 billion yuan ($181 million).
This year, the Ocean Week organized five ocean related trade exhibitions, nine international ocean forums attended by over 270 enterprises and 200 officials and experts from nearly 40 countries.
Among the nine forums, the 2017 International Blue Carbon Forum is the largest academic event with the theme of blue carbon (the carbon stored in ocean sediments) ever held in China during which the 2017 Xiamen Blue Carbon Cooperation Initiative was released, providing a new perspective for tackling global climate changes.
A variety of activities introducing ocean culture were also held, including the final of the 10th National Marine Knowledge Competition for College Students and an ocean science open day event.
Xiamen displayed its fruitful achievements in the development of ocean technology and ocean industry during the Ocean Week. Xiamen's leading companies in marine equipment manufacturing, marine biological products and sea farming all brought their competitive products to the exhibitions, showing the vitality of the city's blue economy.
The increasingly improved influence and attractiveness of the Xiamen International Ocean Week makes the coastal city stand out in regards to international maritime affairs, such as their management of sea waste.
