A total of 500 cage-type soccer pitches have been built in Hohhot, North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, as part of the city's efforts to promote the sport in the region.
According to the football sports center in Hohhot, the pitches which have been well received by soccer enthusiasts, have the advantages of small occupied area, convenient construction and low cost.
"More and more people began to play soccer, which provides more opportunities for soccer lovers to exchange skills," said Zhang, a forty-year-old man in the city.
Zhang stopped playing soccer after he left school for lack of time and soccer pitches. The new soccer pitches have attracted Zhang to play soccer again.
During the reconstruction of the city, the local government transformed the idle areas like dumping grounds and recycling centers into soccer pitches.
All the soccer pitches are open to the public for free or at low cost.
