State Grid Harbin Electricity Power Co Ltd will move to replace coal as a source of fuel for supplying heating, according to an announcement by the company.
So far, the company has converted 28 of the city’s boilers to electricity, with another 205 boilers earmarked for the upgrade.
A total of 28,273 tons of coals will be saved each year once all the boilers are powered by electricity, reducing the impact on the environment. In addition, there will be no additional costs for energy customers.
The company plans to upgrade all 913 boilers in the downtown area of the city by the end of 2017.
