Phil Goff, mayor of Auckland, together with more than 100 enterprise representatives, arrived in Guangzhou on Nov 8 for the Tripartite Economic Summit Guangzhou 2017 which runs from Nov 8 to 10.
Guangzhou, Auckland and Los Angeles are three mutually twinned sister cities and important economic partners. Aiming at furthering cooperation in economy, trade and investment among the three metropolises, mayors of the three cities gathered in Guangzhou and forged the tripartite economic alliance in November 2014.

This year marks the third time the annual event has been held – the first summit was held in Los Angeles in June 2015 and the second summit was held in Auckland in May 2016.
Goff said that Guangzhou and Los Angeles are global economic power engines as well as a great source of students and tourists and that the tripartite economic alliance will offer great development opportunities for Auckland.
Themed "The Power of Three", this year's summit will discuss innovation and entrepreneurship, tourism, cross-border e-commerce, digital and creative industry, education, biomedicine and urban planning and design.
During Goff's stay in Guangzhou, he will also visit a tram car company in the city as Auckland is planning to build tram car networks across the city.
